How Does a Solatube Daylight Tunnel Work?
A Solatube doesn’t simply create the appearance of daylight. It brings real natural daylight from outside into your home.
A specially designed dome at roof level captures daylight and directs it into highly reflective rigid tubing. The tubing transports the daylight through the roof space to a discreet diffuser in the ceiling below.
Solatube captures daylight at roof level, transfers it through highly reflective rigid tubing and delivers it into the room below.
Because the rigid tubing can incorporate angled sections where required, the roof opening doesn’t always have to be positioned directly above the ceiling diffuser.
This makes Solatube particularly useful for areas where installing a conventional window or rooflight isn’t practical.
How Much Does a Solatube Cost?
A typical residential Solatube installation costs around £1,200 fully installed.
The final price will depend on factors including the Solatube model required, roof type, tube length, access and the complexity of the installation.

Which Solatube Do I Need?
Don’t worry — you don’t need to know.
For most residential installations we use Solatube Daylight Tunnels from the Brighten Up Series, including the compact 160DS (250mm – 10″) and larger 290DS (350mm – 14″).
The most suitable system depends on the size and use of the room, the amount of daylight required, your roof construction and the route between the roof and ceiling.
