Thinking of having a conservatory

We all love a bit of extra space and most often we like to add or extend out at the back of the house.  But what we often are unaware of is the impact this new room will have on the existing room you are extending off.

A conservatory extension added on to your lounge/sitting room or kitchen / dining room is extremely common, but even with a clear roof, it substantially cuts the amount of light in the existing room.  When the roof is a solid one, the problem of a dark room due to the extension is exacerbated even further.

Where a conservatory or sun room extension occurs on a 2 storey building, then unfortunately there is very little one can do about it.  But if the new extension is off an existing single storey room, or on a bungalow, then a simple and cost effective solution is at hand – a Solatube tubular skylight or sun pipe.

So, if you’ve been sitting in your living room, kitchen or dining room looking forward to the completion of your new conservatory or sun room extension and you suddenly find yourself plunged in to gloom and darkness, worry no more.

Even a single, Solatube tubular skylight delivers loads of bright daylight, piped down a highly reflective tube, lighting up your dark room again.  Solatubes are simple and cost effective to install with a minimum of fuss, mess and hassle.  There’s no need to go to the expense and trouble of trying to install Velux style roof windows – these are simply not designed to pipe daylight down from a roof to the ceiling below, whereas a Solatube tubular skylight is specifically designed for the purpose.  No structural cutting of timbers, and having to build heat-consuming light wells that don’t deliver very much light.  A Solatube tubular skylight can be fitted simply and cleanly in a few hours, unlike a Velux style window.  A Solatube does not suffer from heat loss during the winter or heat gain during the summer, once again, unlike a Velux window.

So, if you want to know how to light up a room that’s been made dark due to an extension, please just ask us for more details.

Throughout the whole of Scotland, Solatube Scotland is the recognised distributor and installer of Solatube tubular skylights, or light pipes.

If you are interested in bringing natural light into your home, why not contact us at info@solatubescotland.co.uk; 07778 283 427 to find out whether a Solatube sun pipe can help you. Typically, a fully installed system might cost anywhere between £900 – £1,200; that’s supplied, professionally installed and includes the VAT.
