My Solatube tubular skylight is too bright!

It’s not often we say this, but sometimes your Solatube can be too bright, particularly now we have the sunshine back.

Whilst a Solatube sun pipe is an incredibly effective and efficient way of bringing daylight in doors, there are times when you’ll want to ‘draw the curtains’ and shut out that light. For instance if you want to take a nap during the day or in the summer time when it gets light from around 4am and doesn’t get dark until 11pm, just when some people and children want to be fast asleep! Alternatively, you may want to watch that movie in the darkness of your own home cinema.

Whatever your reasons, those innovative bods at Solatube have now come up with a solar powered daylight dimmer, to let you dim the light with ease and total control. And being entirely solar powered also makes installation even easier, without the need for any electrical works.

Full control to dim the light from a Solatube tubular skylight

The new solar powered daylight dimmer consists of a remote-controlled butterfly valve within the tube that opens and closes at the touch of a button. Now you can adjust the level of daylight in your room from bright to dark, and everything in between. So, if you’re not sure whether you want daylight in your bedroom or living room all day long, now the choice is all yours at the press of a button.

Can I turn off the light from a Solatube tubular skylight using a daylight dimmer?

Unlike the manual dimmer option (which consists of a magnetic black out disk and detachment pole), the solar powered daylight dimmer makes life easy as you will never need to get up to dim your Solatube® daylight system. In fact, the solar powered daylight dimmer can be set to operate automatically, closing the daylight dimmer when it gets dark outside, so that you are ready for bed and won’t be woken by that early morning sun rise!

Excellent for use in the bedroom, living room or media room / game room and ideal for use in classrooms too.

Turn the light down low with a Solatube daylight dimmer

      • Available for the 25cm and 35cm Solatube® systems
      • Wireless system for easy installation and operation
      • No electrical connections or qualified electricians required
      • Simple one touch remote control, operates up to 10 dimmers
      • Can also be retrofitted into existing Solatube daylight systems

Magnetic blackout disc

There’s also the original magnetic blackout disc available for a more manual approach to cutting the light out. Simple, basic and effective and also cheaper, it’s just a disc with magnets that attaches to the underside of the ceiling diffuser, using a short pole and release mechanism. It’s a great way to cut or turn the light off from your Solar tube.

So, now that we finally seem to be enjoying some bright sunshine, if your Solatube sun pipe is too bright and needs dimming down then there are options.
